Let me bring you back to the light
Are you grinding?
Are you putting every waking minute into building your dream life?
Are you only sleeping 2 hours to get ahead of your competition?
Alright…
That’s not me, but it sounds a lot like what half these masculinity gurus preach.
We’ve all heard the same message: “Grind harder, and you’ll get what you want.” The biblical anthem of hustle culture. Work 12-hour days. Sacrifice your weekends. Push through exhaustion. Success is just on the other side.
Now that all sounds hunky dory, and there is an element of truth. I have worked several 12-hour days, and sleepless nights; but here’s what they don’t tell you:
If your hustle isn’t aligned with your purpose, your values, or your energy, it’s not going to get you where you want to go.
In fact, it’s going to do the opposite, and it might leave you feeling more stuck than ever.
Personally, I always thought the solution to every problem was to just work harder. If my business wasn’t growing fast enough, I’d add more hours. If my relationships weren’t thriving, I’d overextend myself to try and “fix” things. If I felt unhappy, I’d bury myself in tasks to distract myself.
And that was a whole lot of wasted energy. Procrastination disguised as work. Grinding harder won’t work if you’re doing the wrong work. It won’t work if you’re avoiding what really matters. It won’t work if you’re ignoring your mental and emotional state.
Grinding isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing the right things in the right way… All powered by THE WAY YOU THINK AND FEEL
Grinding with no clear purpose just drains you. It’s like running on a treadmill, using all your energy and going precisely f**king nowhere.
Instead of focusing on how much work you can squeeze into your day, ask yourself: Where is my energy best spent? What tasks actually move the needle? Am I grinding for the right reasons – or just to feel like I’m doing something (mental masturbation of procrastination)?
The grind should serve you, not consume you. When you focus on alignment over sheer effort, you’ll realize you can achieve more by doing less. You’ll stop glorifying busyness and start prioritizing impact.
The truth about the grind is that it’s not about how much you’re doing. It’s about how intentional you’re being with the energy you have.
You don’t need to grind harder.
You need to grind smarter.
Much love,
Shawn “Sheshn” Heshmatpour
