What does AI mean for Human Connection?
If you are active on social media, in particular X, you would have seen the complete takeover of Ghibli-themed images post GPT 4o launch. It was absolutely everywhere on 𝕏 in particular, and even though I was travelling across the country, I couldn’t miss it. Here’s an example to give you an idea, but if you search for Studio Ghibli, you will see the takeover. So much that GPT servers were struggling to keep up, and the CEO of Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki, himself made this comment: “An insult to life itself”. Now look, I’m not going to sit here and be for or against it. I understand the business side which means AI can get you way more streamlined, and there are thousands of other things that could benefit the human race. And of course, there are terrible things that could happen. If you are a fan of reading Frank Herbert, you might think it’s not if, but when the Butlerian Jihad happens. Nevertheless, this particular viral moment caught my eye in the realm of AI because it signifies another step in the technology. It was only a few years ago that Midjourney and Chat GPT launched, but the technology is rapidly evolving. Jobs will be lost, and the scope of society will change, but what concerns me most is the human connection. I read something today that said AI therapy gave a 51% decrease in depressive symptoms. Now, if someone can use AI to get help which they didn’t have access to prior, great; but this is a worrying sign for me. We are already disconnected. Look at the social media impact on society. AI could exacerbate this problem. People strive for relationships, connections in business, or friends. It’s a lonely pandemic, and to me, this is something I want to make sure doesn’t happen. This is why I’ve built what I’ve built. Let’s use AI to make more time for our human connection. Let’s make AI do our laundry, dishes, cleaning; but when it comes to emotional connection, confidence, relationships, and purpose, you can’t automate that. There is no AI for that. You have to face it. Feel it. Experience it. That’s the work I do with men every day. Helping them reconnect to their power, master their mindset, and build real, lasting confidence from the inside out. |
