We’re inundated with it these days.
We are told life is so easy to get ahead because of how people lack discipline and ambition.
All these self improvement tricks.
Every guru has a new hack.
But this is starting to cause a major problem.
People now think reading self-help tactics is actually improving them… without even applying it.
Be honest: How many self-help books or podcasts have you listened to and then actually gone away and applied the advice?
Or have you just ridden the dopamine high of understanding the knowledge thinking it would be magically installed into your hardware?
I think we know the truth.
Perhaps your Youtube watch later is filled with self help, so you feel like your moving in the right direction, to continue living the life you already are.
On the hamster wheel… going nowhere.
Too many people are “learning self-help” and then just procrastinating.
Because they think they are improving.
But you’re staying in the same space.
You aren’t learning a damn thing, because you haven’t applied anything.
Imagine watching 10 boxing training videos.
Then you’ve got the Rocky theme playing non stop in your headphones.
You would FEEL powerful.
You would FEEL as though you know everything that’s required to throw a smart one-two followed by a left uppercut.
But the reality is, despite watching all the training and psyching yourself up with motivation, you’ve not thrown a single punch.
We need to quit all the mental masturbation of self help disguised as procrastination.
But look Shawn, I can hear your eyebrows moving.
Self-help isn’t bad at all.
But without application it’s pointless.
There’s many fantastic books and resources out there, but how many reiterate a similar method said in a different way?
For me, there’s one 30 minute audio which stands head and shoulders above the rest.
And once you’ve listened to it, all you need is to apply it.
I suggest you give it a listen: The Strangest Secret – Earl Nightingale
Much love,
Shawn “Sheshn” Heshmatpour
