Let me ask you this: How many times have you set a goal, started strong, but somewhere along the way, life happened, and before you knew it, that goal was out of sight? In fact, it’s a distant memory. Other priorities came into place, and despite the hunger you had when you set the goal, the desire has vanished. And then you spent time in your own head. Having that self talk with yourself, justifying why it doesn’t matter you didn’t hit that goal.

We’ve all been there.

Myself included.

Whether it’s career aspirations, fitness targets, or building your side hustle, we feel frustrated and angry at ourselves when we can’t seem to hit our goals, no matter how badly we think we want them. But here’s the thing. It’s not about wanting it more. Remember that little self talk you had in your head justifying your failure? That’s the problem. It’s all about mastering the thoughts that run through your mind every day. It’s estimated we have around 6,000 thoughts a day. That’s just over six a minute, so depending on the individual, maybe slightly more, slightly less.

And just think, how many of those are negative?  Your mind loves to replay the same stories:

“I’m not good enough”
“I won’t ever succeed”
“I’m too busy”

Or the classic, “I’ll start tomorrow.”

Imagine telling yourself even just once a day, you aren’t good enough. Let alone hundreds of times. And you wonder why you can’t hit your goals with all this self sabotage? Your starting 50 yards behind the starting blocks. But these thoughts? They’re just habits – choices you’re making daily without even realizing it. I remember when I set the goal to launch my own business. I was excited, motivated, and ready to go. I felt like I could lift a bus. But every time I sat down to work on it, I found an excuse.

“Maybe I need more research”
“I don’t have the right skills”
“I don’t have the capital to invest”

Before long, months had passed, and I was nowhere near launching. It wasn’t until I recognized that my thoughts were what was actually holding me back that things changed. I looked in the mirror, gave myself a slap, and asked myself – what am I really thinking when I avoid working on my goals? Turns out, I was afraid of failure, of looking like I didn’t know what I was doing. Sound familiar?

Here’s the truth: your thoughts shape your actions, and your actions create your results. Want to hit your goals? Start by changing your thoughts.

Practice cognitive mastery. Like going to the gym or learning a new skill, training your mind takes practice. Set vibe checks throughout the day. Ask yourself, “What am I thinking right now, and is it helping me?” You don’t need a new goal setting strategy. You have all the tools, but your missing the key ingredient.

Frustrations like inconsistency, lack of progress, and doubt come from stories we’ve told ourselves for years. The key is to shift those stories, day by day. Maybe your goal feels huge and overwhelming right now, but break it down. Celebrate the small wins. Keep adjusting your mindset. Keep showing up. Every day, attack the negative thoughts. Rewire your brain, change your thought process, and believe in yourself. I know other people make it look easy. Everyone else appears to be crushing goals and have complete confidence in themselves. But it isn’t, and I can guarantee, they struggled too.

And incase you are struggling and don’t know where to start, you can chat with me free for an hour here to see how I can help you.

Unfortunately, we can’t wave a magic wand and just hit our goals, but we can do the mental reps. It’s time to rewrite your story.

Much love,
